Tickets for Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz's Broadway debut in sexed up play Betrayal selling for $2,500 on the black market
Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz have caused a stampede to the box office by theatregoers keen to keen to see the husband and wife acting powerhouse in Harold Pinter's Betrayal.
The show opened on Sunday, in front of a star-studded audience including director Steven Spielberg, musician Bruce Springsteen and US Vogue editor Anna Wintour at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre who were among the lucky ticketholders.
But others desperate to see the show have seen theatre lovers pay $2,500 on the black market to see the new adaptation, directed by ten-time Tony Award winner Mike Nichols.
The average ticket sold costs $150, with the top price premium ticket costing $423.
The Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye said that touts are offering tickets to theatregoers for $2,500 to see the couple in the 90 minute Harold Pinter play.
Already, the show is setting box-office records at the theatre, grossing $1,100,818 for the week ended October 6 and $1,112,027 for the week ended October 13.
That beats Arthur Miller's Death Of A Salesman which was revived last year, and grossed $45,000 less than the figures earned by Betrayal.
The story of infidelity is loosely based on Pinter's own seven-year affair with former BBC television presenter Joan Bakewell, who was married to the producer and director Michael Bakewell, while he was married to actress Vivien Merchant.
